Vielleicht gibt es doch noch Hoffnung... auf Wiederbelebung! 
Eine Anfrage an die Projektadmins gab folgende Antwort (gefunden im BOINCstats-Forum):

Das sehr kleine Projekt-Team analysiert also noch an den Daten, die 2008 ercruncht wurden. Da auch noch ein Hauptmitarbeiter gerade das Projekt verlassen hat, dauert das alles wesentlich länger als geplant.
Aber es wird auch an Anwendungen für andere Berechnungen gearbeitet.
Kann also sein, dass es erstmal mit diesen anderen Apps weitergeht - hoffentlich vor Ende diesen Jahres.

Ich würd Proteins dann erst Mal zu den stillgelegten Projekten hinzufügen. Was meint ihr?
Der beste Beweis für die Existenz von außerirdischer Intelligenz ist gerade die Tatsache, dass sie bisher keinen Kontakt zu uns aufgenommen haben.

Da es nun mit Ende Dezember nicht geklappt hatte, haben sich im Forum die Fragen gehäuft.
Soeben hat David, der Admin geantowrtet:

Schaut mal eine Seite zuvor den letzten Post auf der Seite, den ich gemacht hab.
In der Mail war die Rede von einer neuen Phase und eventuell einer neuen Anwendung in absehbarer Zeit.
Das Projekt ist also noch lange nicht "am Ende".

Na ich hoffe doch, nur unterbrochen (obwohl die letzte Unterbrechung ziemlich lang war).
Wenn von "Step 2" die Rede ist, hoffe ich doch, es wird auch noch "Teil 3" geben.

results, we have considerably improved our prediction
method and are beginning to apply it to specific protein
families such as the Src homology domains and so-called
WW domains. This will help us identify new members of
these families and understand the function of newly-
discovered genes. More information is in the attached
report.
With our improved methodology in place, we are ready
for a new computation phase. We hope that you will
participate in this new phase.

Das Projekt wird in eine neue Berechnungsphase starten, vermutlich auch in Verbindung mit einer neuen Anwendung, darüber wurde schon in einer anderen Mail die Tage berichtet.

- Der Server ist wieder online und neue WUs wird es bald geben.
Allerdings ist noch nicht alles wieder so, wie's war.
