Stats gibt's jetzt also auch, also wird's auch bald bei uns in der Datenbank vorhanden sein - sobald puredoze das nach seiner Abwesenheit eingefügt hat.

Der erste Erfolg des Projektes:

Hello, friends! The first meaningful experiment finished!!! It was and attempt to locate energy minima for Morse 150-atom cluster. We submitted 4096 work units. Each WU performed iterations of Basin-Hopping method from a randomly generated starting point. The maximal_no_improve parameter value was set to 1024. The found minimum was -670.768. This experiment was quite long: it took about 1 week to complete all workunits. And most of the time system worked with only little load (see yellow line at the diagram).
This very long tail is caused by results those are kept by the client machines for a very long period. The last two days only 16 results were computed! In the next series of experiments we are going to fix this by providing more workunits and stopping computations as soon as performance reaches its maximal value. |

Mac OSX version is temporaly disabled. It was incompatible with the input data and caused numerous errors. We'll build new version and enable it again soon. |
- Die Mac OSX-App wurde abgeschaltet, da sie wegen Inkompatibilität diverse Fehler verursachte. Es wird an einer neuen gearbeitet.

Experiment #2 successfully finished! Thanks everybody! After processing twice more starting points the objective value was improved: -673.769. This time the infrastructure performed much better because of more WUs and more computers registered. New experiment is coming soon! However again the last day the performance was quite low because no unprocessed workunits remained. It looks like twice more WUs or even four time more WUs are needed to load the system adequatly. |
Auch das zweite Experiment wurde erfolgreich beendet. Die Infrastruktur arbeitete wegen mehr WUs und mehr Rechnern noch besser.

Es gibt neue WUs zu einem neuen Experiment. Die WUs sind jetzt "schwerer", also vermutlich dauern sie länger in der Berechnung.

We improved the search algorithm and prepared new (2.0) application versions. The MacOSX version now supports 10.4 system. We re-run the previous experiment in order to see the performance of the improved search algorithm. |
- Es gibt eine neue Anwendungsversion mit verbessertem Suchalgorithmus. Das vorherige Experiment wird nochmal durchlaufen um zu schauen, um wieviel besser die Leistung ist.

The next portion of WUs is submitted. This is the 3rd generation of points: we are trying to improve starting from the results obtained at the previous step. Now we also increased the number of steps in the Monotonic Basin Hopping Algorithm from 2048 to 4096 and adjusted WU settings respectively. We also set the maximum number of WUs per core in progress to 8. This is needed to improve the scheduling. The deadline is set to 3 days. All these things are done in response to the crunchers requests. |
Und die nächsten WUs sind draußen mit weiteren Veränderungen: maximale Anzahl an WUs pro Kern sind jetzt 8 und die Deadline beträgt 3 Tage.

Nach den neuesten Ergebnissen beträgt das neue gefundene Minimum jetzt -683,783, das deutlich besser als das letzte ist (-681,871). Das Experiment startete mit 4.096 zufälligen Punkten. Die verbesserten Punkte dienten als Startpunkt für eine weitere Bearbeitung, die endete, als keine Verbesserung mehr möglich war. Das Experiment dauerte einen Monat.

Wegen der Feiertage gab es längere Zeit keine Arbeit. Neue Anwendungsversionen wird es in Kürze geben. Das große Experiment endete mit einem verbesserten Minimum auf den Wert von -683,84.
