Osmoprotection Phase 2 Completed!! (Jan '13)
As you can see from Osmo. Progress page, all dynamics ended last weekend. I have to thanks all of you for your help.
Now it's time for us to work elaborating all the big amount of data and give to them some order.
We will take some time to do that and in the meanwhile there will be no new works.
I will let you know something as soon as I get news.

Phase 2 des Osmoschutzes wurde beendet. Die Daten werden jetzt erst einmal ausgewertet, bis auf Weiteres gibt es keine neue Arbeit.

Good news for all windows crunchers!
I just released some work units for the windows beta app. These are "real" wus, not just a test. Them correspond to a new system: the beta hairpin (same as the other systems currently in study) with taurine, an osmoprotector, as cosolvent.
If all results are ok, I will move the app all the results obtained out of the beta status.

Es wurden einige WU´s für die Windows-Beta-App erstellt.Es sind "echte " WU´s,keine Testobjekte.Wenn alles klappt,wird die Beta-App für Windows den Beta-Status verlassen und eine vollwertige App sein.

This work is a continuation of the previous work about osmoprotection. You can see an introduction about osmoprotection under the "Science" menu. In the same place you can find the "Osmo. Progress" page that show how many jobs are needed to finish.
In the next post you can find some other information about WUs and apps.

Es gibt etwas Arbeit. Die vorherige Arbeit über Osmoschutz wird damit fortgesetzt. Eine Einleitung über Osmoschutz könnt ihr unter dem Science-Menu nachschlagen. Dort kann man auch den Fortschritt sehen, wieviele Jobs noch zum Beenden nötig sind. Im nächsten Post gibt's Infos über die WUs und die Anwendung.

First of all, excuse me for the lacks in news.
Then, which is the state of art? Currently in our labs there are some incoming projects that need a primary study to understand how and if they work and if it is possibile to use the power given by this boinc server to run them quickly. So we need some time and I can't garantee you that you will have soon some work.
About osmoprotection calculation you performed, we found some interesting results, and we are currently performing a second data analisys. I hope I will give you good news soon.

Es gibt neue Projekte im Laboratorium, die einer Studie bedürfen, ob sie über den BOINC-Server laufen können und den User mehr Arbeit geben könnte.
Die Ergebnisse der Osmoseschutz-Berechnung brachte interessante Ergebnisse, die noch einmal näher analysiert werden.

New Server!
Hi!
As someone of you already noticed, the phase 1 of this project is completed! And I have only to thanks you for your work and your help!
In these hours I'm transfering the boinc server core to a new server located in University of Milan. The main advantages of this new server are the more brandwidth and the fixed IP address, in order to avoid problems with boinc client.
In the next days I'm going to fix some little problem with this new server (if you find any problem, please report) and I'm going to elaborate the large amount of data I received from phase 1. I'll let you know the result as soon as possibile.

Phase 1 des Projektes ist beendet.
Außerdem ist es auf einen neuen Server in der Universität von Milan gewandert und hat eine neue URL erhalten: http://mmgboinc.unimi.it/
Hauptvorteile des neuen Servers sind größere Bandbreite und fixe IP-Adresse.
In den nächsten Tagen werden kleinere Probleme am Server behoben (und wer weitere findet, bitte melden) und die Daten von Phase 1 werden ausgewertet.

Here's some news:
a) As you can see WUs are rapidly declining. Indeed we are completing the first phase of the project. At this page you can see the current status and percentage completed. Make it green!
b) After this phase, the server will move to a new computer that was installed and configured this month at the University of Milan. We can thus benefit from greater upload/download bandwidth and a static IP that should solve some issues with boinc client.
I thank everyone for the enormous help you are giving. We reached a peak of power nearly 400 GFLOPs!

Das Ende der ersten Phase des Projektes naht, hier könnt ihr den derzeitigen Status sehen.
Nach dieser Phase wird der Server auf einen neuen Rechner an der Universität von Milan umziehen. Dort haben wir größere Up/Download-Bandbreite und eine statische IP.

ist seit dem 23. als beta online - funktioniert aber nicht, weil man mal wieder santo improvisario ne kerze gestiftet hat, anstatt die gromacs docs zu lesen und den aufruf korrekt in die job.xml einzubauen.
commands wie "-nt $NTHREADS" funktionieren halt nicht..

A month-long journey
One month after the birth of the project we are pleased to announce the great strides made so far:
1) We have obtained stable application for Linux operating systems both 32 and 64-bit multithreaded;
2) We have the official support of the research group in Molecular Modelling, University of Milan;
3) The project is already beginning to produce results, soon I hope to write a few pages of explanation;
4) We are being developed for the application windows, even with different problems, but we're on the right path.

also das "übliche" MDRUN, wie es bei einigen projekten eingesetzt wird (drugdiscovery, hydrogen, ibercivis usw..).
das da jeder seine eigenen simulationen entwickeln kann, ist klar. im moment sind's aber wie fast immer, proteine in wasser.
allerdings sehe ich zum ersten mal, das jemand die MT-option nutzt.
CUDA wäre übrigens auch möglich - kann die gromacs engine seit ca. 2 jahren - müsste man nur nutzen wollen.

Hi!
I just released a new application version (113) for linux machines. Now the progress bar should work.
Please report here any problem.
In a few days I should be able to publish some pages about the purpose of work units currently in progress.

Die neue Linux-Anwendung 1.13 sollte jetzt eine funktionierende Fortschrittsanzeige haben. In einigen Tagen wird es auch eine Veröffentlichung über den Zweck der aktuellen WUs in Arbeit geben.

Some news
Because the last version seems stable and doesn't make problems, I just compiled and released the 64bit version of linux application.
We are also working on the windows application, but we need more time for an possibly release.
One note: if you get server errors in uploading WUs, try to restart the boinc client. These errors are probably due to the fact that our server haven't got a static IP address and accordingly the client can't handle the IP change. Sorry for the inconvenience, but we're unable to solve. |
Die letzte Version lief stabil, drum gab es eine neu kompilierte 64-Bit-Version der Linux-App. Es wird auch an einer Windows-Version gearbeitet, aber das kann noch dauern.
Wer Upload-Fehler hat, sollte versuchen, den BOINC-Client neu zu starten. Rührt vermutlich daher, daß der Server keine statische IP hat und der Client den IP-Wechsel nicht verarbeiten kann.

Static app released
I just released a static version of the linux 32bit app (it doesn't need any shared libraries to work). Now the app should work in every linux machine. The progress bar doesn't work because a problem compiling a little deamon with static libs. Please report any error.

Dank einer statischen Version sollte die Anwendung jetzt auf jeder Linux-Maschine laufen. Die Fortschrittsanzeige funktioniert allerdings derzeit wegen eines Kompilierungsproblems noch nicht.
